Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

This banana bread is what happens when you combine two classics. It’s moist, perfectly sweet, and studded with pockets of melted chocolate. The secret is using very ripe bananas—the more brown spots, the better. The chocolate chips aren’t traditional, but they make this banana bread irresistible. It’s perfect for breakfast, snacks, or even dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Make sure your oven is fully preheated before putting anything in — this ensures even baking from the very first minute.
  2. Mix mashed bananas with melted butter.
  3. Stir in sugar, egg, and vanilla.
  4. Add baking soda and salt. Always taste as you go — you can add more seasoning, but you can't take it away!
  5. Fold in flour until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Pour into greased loaf pan.
  8. Bake 60 minutes until toothpick comes clean. Every oven is a little different, so start checking a few minutes early. You're looking for a golden color and a wonderful aroma filling your kitchen.
  9. Cool before slicing. I know it's tempting to dig in right away, but this resting time allows everything to set properly and makes a real difference in the final result.
